Attendance

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We want to thank you for taking the time to read this attendance guide to successfully report your student’s absences. According to PWCS

Regulation 724-1, Section II, B.3, a parent/guardian must provide the school with an explanation of their student’s absence no later than the

fifth day after the absence. For additional information about attendance regulations and policies, please scan the QR Code.

Please see below several methods you may use to notify the school about an absence, listed in order of preference.

1.Use ParentVUE – Report Absence tool. (Note: Use this to inform about ALL DAY absences only, NOT late arrivals or early release)

2.Write a note or send a medical note with your student to provide to the main office.

3.Call the school at 703-878-2593 – leave a voicemail if unavailable.

 

 

Regular Absences

If your student is absent for 1-3 days, you must inform the school using one of the following methods:

  • ParentVUE Report Absence tool (see instructions attached)
  • Send a note to school
  • Call school at 703-878-2593

Pre-arranged Absences

If you have an upcoming prearranged or extended absences (4+ days), parent must provide a letter to the main office for the Principal's approval.

Upon the Principal's approval, you will receive an email response. Students are only allowed one Pre-arranged absence in a school year.

10+ Absences

If your student accumulates 10 absences in a school year, a medical note will be required to excuse any further absences.

If these absences continue to accumulate without explanation or proper documentation, student may be referred to the Attendance Officer.

15 Consecutive Absences

A reminder, if your student accumulates 15 consecutive absences, the school is required to withdraw the student at the end of the day on the 15th absence, regardless of whether their absences are excused or unexcused. Withdrawn students are not excused from mandatory school attendance requirements. Parent will be expected to reenroll their student as soon as possible.
