April 17 Update

Students may find the independent work (reviewing old content we've already covered this school year) for April-June by clicking on Files and Documents --> Corona Virus Work While Schools are Closed --> Class Date (such as April 17 Classwork). In each class date folder I provide my lesson plan as well as the documents and links to videos so students can do the optional work at their own pace.
  * It is OK to email me or other students if you have questions.
  * This is optional work - not required - not graded.
  * If you submit the work to me, I'll review it and note it in my gradebook. If you demonstrate a meaningful improvement in understanding this content then it might justify my raising your marking period 1, 2 or 3 grade at the end of the school year.

                                               March 19 Update
This calendar lists the content we covered each week of this school year. You can
use this to guide your review in my textbook or online resources or my resources.

Missing Graded Work That Students Can Makeup:
1. Missing jlab assignments for 3rd marking period.
2. Missing Distance Time Graphs Practice handout - can be found by going to "Files and Documents" (top left margin of this page) then selecting "Coronavirus" Folder and printing it, completing it and submitting to me, maybe by camera photo/email.

PWCS recommends students "stay sharp" academically by doing some optional (ungraded) review work, by using such sites as can be found at the PWCS Home Learning Resources page. You can also use any of my documents, listed by unit, that are in my "Files and Documents" page above.

Many other sites are available, if you are looking for something specific to review: check out the links in my "Useful Links" page above (especially those near the bottom of the list!).

Stay safe...stay healthy...be a blessing (help) to your family and neighbors!

Biography:

Welcome! I have been teaching 8th grade Physical Science here at Beville Middle School since the 2004-2005 school year. Prior to that I taught four years of high school science courses (biology, chemistry and physics) at a private school in Centreville. I am retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, having earned a BS in Political Science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a MS in Administration from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a MS Ed from Old Dominion University. It is enjoyable showing students how this material applies to so many areas of their lives.

Personal Message:

8th Grade Physical Science - We spend the first semester examining the basic principles of chemistry; this includes doing chemistry labs. The second semester focuses on physics principles. My goal is to see all my students learn these chemistry and physics concepts and to begin to see the importance of chemistry and physics in their lives. If you find this material difficult to understand, don't get frustrated...please come by for help. That's why I'm here.
