Grade 6 and 7 Creative Writing Teacher
This Week in Creative Writing:
6th grade is looking at conjunctions and how to create compound sentences.
Periods 3A, 5B, and 6B are reading a condensed version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in preparation for creating their own "modern" adaptations.
Periods 3B, 4A, 4B, 5A, and 6A are tracking the steps/features of the "Hero's Journey" plot through a film. Then, they are writing their own adventure story.
Reading Connections (formerly "SSR"): Creative Writing will take part in the school-wide program of "Reading Connections" on Tuesday and Thursday of each week at the beginning of class. Students need to bring a reading book with them to class! :)
Ms. Goode's "Where I'm From" poem
I am from slow cookers,
pork chops and apple sauce,
and sneaking Reese's peanut butter cups
off the top shelf of the pantry.
I am from Broad Run,
dogwood flowers, and the
unfortunate swarm of wasps
that overtook me one day
by the swing set.
I am from "Peace be with you,"
and "Cool your jets,"
and from playing hide-and-seek
in Grandma Dorothy's jumbled up basement.
In my closet, there is a dark-green fleece jacket,
passed down from my mother.
The tag has faded,
but her warmth remains.
I am from the love and strength
with which she guided me.
