Beville Debate is one of the many teams in the Nation's Capital Debate League (NCDL).

After a LONG layoff, we are back with in person meetings after school in Room 1820. We are gearing up for a (planned) return to in-person debating in February 2022. We compete against public and private schools from throughout Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland.

Last season Bobcats Debate set new records for success bringing home ample hardware from multiple debates. This includes a 3rd Place Overall team finish in City Championships in May. Our team is also proud to boast that we have the 2nd place individual speaker (out of 200 who competed) Rebecca Clark!

Our last live, in person debate that we have attended the March 7th, 2020 at Longfellow Middle School in Falls Church, VA. The debate consisted of three impromptu rounds, and one scripted round with the topic of Zoos Should Be Banned. Beville brought six teams to Longfellow Middle School, all of which debated schools like Rachel Carson Middle School and Blessed Sacrament School. Yared Pierce, an 8th grader, took home the Top School Speaker award.

We qualified and scheduled to compete in the East Coast National Championship Tournament on May 2nd in Allentown, New Jersey, but ultimately could not compete due the the Covid-19 Pandemic. We are hoping that 2022 will be the year we can qualify and compete in Nationals!!
